While there are far too many Diablo 2: Resurrected Runewords to detail here, players leveling through the game for the first time will want to seek out a few standouts. Related: Diablo II: Resurrected Faces Server Instability & Missing Characters Runewords must also be placed in a specific order to spell the desired word, or else the item will simply be a piece of gear with three individual runes. The Runeword must match the exact number of sockets on the gear piece, so a three-part Runeword can only be placed into a three-socket item. In legacy versions of the game, this rune word's chance to cast Firestorm on hit used to cause severe lag in multiplayer games, as well as noticeable animation locks and attack interruptions due to a bug causing on-striking skills to trigger their respective effect's casting delays.Runewords are special combinations of runes that, when placed into a piece of Diablo 2: Resurrected gear in the right order, grant the user additional bonuses. Attaching a Runeword to an item comes with a few caveats: For starters, Runewords can only be used on non-magic, grey-text (Normal, Exceptional, or Elite), socketed gear, and only chest, helms, shields, and (most) weapons can have sockets. Thanks to its unusually large amount of enhanced damage if made into a shield, Phoenix is (by a considerable margin) the most damaging shield for most characters specializing in physical damage to use. The -28% fire resist is also useful for characters who specialize in fire damage. Phoenix is the only way to get enhanced damage on a shield (aside from +x% enhanced damage jewels), and the Redemption aura is very helpful in keeping the character alive. 1.10–current Phoenix is the rune word ' Vex Vex Lo Jah' for weapons or off-hand armor in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction.
